Remote Sensing-Based Agricultural Water Accounting for the North Jordan Valley

Remote sensing can provide important and updated information for agricultural water accounting (AWA). In this study, data from the open-access portal (WaPOR) of Food Agricultural Organization was used in AWA to assess levels consumption possible solutions deficiency North Jordan Valley (NJV). Consolidated procedures have been applied complement validate WaPOR products. These included use climatic ground data, multispectral remote-sensing Sentinel-2 Landsat 8 derive land use/cover maps, GIS layers, calibrated evapotranspiration (ET) estimates using surface energy balance algorithm (SEBAL). The inflows outflows were analyzed plus (WA+) system. Results showed that actual ET interception (AETI) highly correlated with SEBAL-ET, overestimating irrigated areas. Precipitation WaPOR, on other hand, underestimating inflow rainfall, although significant correlations observed between these rainfall records. As a result, quality affected outputs accounting. main impact underestimation percolated could be utilized as solution NJV. addition, performance indicators relatively affected, they reflected nature study area where predominated result inter-basin transfer. compared terms NJV concluded considerable amounts recoverable developed when option developing side wadis. Also, it emphasized role sources providing needed improved management governance.
